# How to Onboard Inventory - Overview
Have you reached Step Two of the [Getting Started Checklist](https://support.innovint.us/hc/en-us/innovint-onboarding-checklist?hsLang=en)? Then, it's time to set up your existing inventory in InnoVint.
Whether you are coming from an another software, or upgrading from excel (or notebooks!), you'll need to follow the same steps to get started.
Wine starts in the vineyard, and we start there in InnoVint, too! Create the building blocks for your wines by creating all the vineyard sources that make up your current lots. That is [Step 1: Add Vineyard Sources.](https://support.innovint.us/hc/en-us/articles/360027033091-step-2-add-and-edit-vineyard-sources?hsLang=en#step1)
After vineyards are created, you'll need to create the containers that hold the wine - barrels, tanks, bins, kegs, etc. This is [Step 2: Add vessels.](https://support.innovint.us/hc/en-us/204106559-step-1-enter-your-vessels-into-the-system-with-video-?hsLang=en)
Next, you need to define the contents of your vessels. This is how you create new wine lots, setting the composition, bond, lot style, color, tax class and any other attributes that are tied to the Lot code. Finally, after you created the "specs" for your wine lots in Step 3, you can proceed to the final step and input your lot contents via [Step 4: Add volume.](https://support.innovint.us/hc/en-us/articles/204758625-step-4-fill-vessels-with-the-volume-for-each-lot-with-video-?hsLang=en)
We put these steps in order for a reason, but you can also add your vessels first if you prefer to start with vessels over vineyards. However, keep the following in mind:
- You must have vineyards created before you can create a lot's composition
- You must have a lot code and composition before you can add volume to a lot
- You cannot fill a lot with volume if you do not have any vessels
